TRIBUTE TRUCK
Sometimes a truck is more than a truck.
And this 1955 Chevy pickup is something
special: It's a tribute to the late Ronnie
Van Zant, a founding member and original
lead singer of the Southern rock band
Lynyrd Skynyrd.
A star like Ronnie could've had any vehicle
he wanted, but the simple Chevy pickup
was the one he preferred. He bought
the truck in 1975 and enjoyed driving it
barefoot until his untimely death in 1977.
His brother Johnny Van Zant recently
decided to restore the '55 Chevy truck in
remembrance of Ronnie.
Johnny turned to the Fields Dealer Group,
which commissioned Pearl Collision
Center—both in Jacksonville, Fla.—to
give the truck a new life. The Chevy was
restored to an almost like-new condition.
Johnny requested that the familiar creaks
and rattles of past years remain along with
the original steering wheel because Ronnie,
his father Lacy, and brother Donnie had all
put their hands on it. PPG distributor Single
Source provided the paint, and painter
Joe Nettles used the DELTRON
®
basecoat
system to apply the "Ghost Gray Metallic"
custom color and provide Ronnie's Chevy
with a memorable finish.
Johnny intends to keep the truck in the
family and continue driving it to celebrate
Ronnie's memory.
