PPG EARNS AWARD FOR FUTURE COATINGS PRESENTATION PPG's vision for next-generation coatings that support mobility technologies earned a top award at the recent SURCAR North American Congress in Detroit. Ranju Arya, senior business director, mobility, received the conference's Jury Award for his presentation on PPG's advances in coatings science that are addressing smart mobility challenges such as autonomous driving. Arya discussed several PPG solutions that can address emerging market needs, including exterior finishes that will enable autonomous vehicles to reliably "see" and "be seen" by LIDAR, radar and other systems. PPG AND FERRARI TEAM UP ON NEW PROCESS Thanks to the ongoing collaboration with PPG, Ferrari has introduced an innovative, low-temperature paint system, making the Prancing Horse the world's first car manufacturer to adopt the new Low Cure clearcoats technology. The new two-component paint system incorporates a specially formulated clearcoat, which makes it possible for the car to be baked at 100 degrees instead of 150 degrees, thereby cutting energy costs and enhancing the sustainability of the process. The new solution also makes it possible to bake carbon fiber and composite components together with the bodyshell, resulting in color uniformity between the various body components. The technology has also enabled Ferrari to industrialize a process to produce no fewer than 61 different basecoat colors by combining metallic basecoats with a gloss or matte pigmented clearcoat. TEAM PPG This super aerodynamic VeloX 8 recumbent bicycle, driven by Jennifer Breet of the Netherlands' Human Power Team, reached an amazing speed of 72.42 mph while recently competing in the World Human Powered Speed Challenge held at Battle Mountain, Nev. As a sponsoring partner, PPG supplied the advanced coating for the bike's shell to create a super smooth surface and help ensure high speed. The coating was developed in the Netherlands, combining efforts and expertise from both our architectural coatings and automotive refinish sites. ONE FAST BICYCLE 5
