PPG GALLERY
Jim Cara's been making stunning custom
guitars at Cara Guitars—the original
hot rod guitar shop—for 40-plus years.
Customers include rock legends Gene
Simmons of Kiss and Night Ranger's
Brad Gillis. Based in Newport, Del., Cara
designs and paints the guitars himself,
often chrome-plating the wood and
adding metal flakes—that sometimes
stand on end—and glitter for the effects
his musicians want. Cara uses PPG's
DELFLEET ESSENTIAL
®
single stage
polyurethane enamel as a basecoat, then
tops each guitar with VC5700 DITZLER
®
Custom Clear—the only clear he's found
that can completely cover his flakes. His
finishes absolutely rock.
RECORD-SETTING
HAULER
"Joint Venture," a 1997 Freightliner owned
by Don Lemmons, holds the Bonneville
Salt Track record for the world's fastest
modified diesel truck—228.8 mph. The
lightning-fast truck's two-tone red
and gray finish was
executed by Kody
Price and Mike Miller
of Wheeler's Collision
& Paint in Kelso,
Wash., using DELFLEET
®
Evolution FBC Basecoat.
Bob's Paint Land, a PPG Platinum
Distributor in nearby Vancouver, provided
the paint.
