18 | 19 Spray gun settings vary depending on the manufacturer's model and make. To assist, PPG publishes gun charts for its waterborne systems. NOTE: For reference, see gun chart technical bulletin DOX440 in Products section of ppgrefinish.com and through PaintManager program software. Proper gun setup is important to ensure the paint is applied evenly and consistent results are achieved. SETUP GUIDELINES • Ensure gauges and regulators are designed for the gun being used in the repair and are working properly. • Set air pressure 5–10 psi above recommended PSI at the wall. (Air pressure decreases from the wall to the gun based on the length of air hose.) • Fine tune air pressure, fan control, and fluid adjustments to deliver a full wet, even pattern when tested at 6–8" distance. • For small spot repairs, adjust gun controls to create a smaller pattern required for the repair. TIPS: A pattern too heavy on one side will create wet/dry stripes. A dirty air cap creates uneven patterns. Too little air pressure creates a wide, wet pattern. Too much air pressure blows the center out and creates a pattern heavy on top and bottom, with very little fluid in the center. Too narrow a fan adjustment concentrates all the fluid in too little an area. Too wide an open fan adjustment can stretch the pattern too far, creating dry spray. SETTING YOUR SPRAY GUN
