Basecoat viscosity greatly
influences application and
final appearance. Standard
recommendations of 10%,
20% and 30% are general
starting points.
Actual viscosity should be checked
periodically to ensure consistent
performance.
The correct viscosity for PPG's
waterborne is 23–28 seconds using
a DIN 4 viscosity cup.
TIPS:
If the viscosity is greater than
28 seconds (too thick), add thinner.
In high temp and high humidity,
adjust viscosity to lower range of
spec—23–24 seconds. This provides
thinner coats and will dehydrate faster.
NOTE: If modifier is added to the
color mix, viscosity will need an
additional 5–10% thinner to adjust
back to 23–28 seconds.
