No one person has influenced the artistic appeal of motorsports more than Kenny Youngblood, who will be making his first appearance on behalf of PPG Refinish. Other celebrity appearances at the PPG booth will be from Bobby Alloway of Alloway's Hot Rod Shop, Charley Hutton of Charley Hutton's Color Studio, as well as Tom and Mitch Kelly of Kelly & Son Crazy Painters. The fun-themed PPG exhibit will also display the work of some 30 artists from across the nation, demonstrating the boundless creativity that can be achieved with PPG paint products. Throughout the 4-day event, refinish product experts will be on hand to discuss new PPG products such as DITZLER ® Hot Rod Black topcoat and CRYSTALLANCE ™ toners for the VIBRANCE COLLECTION ® . They will also field questions about America's best-selling waterborne basecoat technology and other product lines. The 2013 SEMA Show will be held November 5–8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. PPG BaCks a BoBsleIGh for sPeCIal needs The Alberta Bobsleigh Association (ABA) is working to make bobsleigh accessible to disabled Canadian athletes, and PPG Automotive Refinish is doing its part to help. The Calgary-based ABA has been developing bobsleigh programs since 1983. In 2011 it started a program for disabled athletes—men and women, ranging from amputees to quadriplegics—to compete in the thrilling speed sport. The ABA built four special sleds and wanted them to look good. That's when PPG raced in. Alan Morasch, parts manager at Calgary's Varsity Chrysler and ABA past president, asked Ken Withell, owner of PPG distributor Advanced Coatings Technologies, and PPG territory manager Rob Festa for support. He got it. PPG provided DELFLEET ESSENTIAL ® single-stage paint for the sleds' matte black finish, along with a generous donation to sustain the program. The ABA is part of a global initiative to introduce bobsleigh as a competitive sport in the XII Paralympic Winter Games set for Pyeongchang, South Korea, in 2018. Rest assured, those sleds will look good! The topsides of the USS Freedom, lead ship of the U.S. Navy's littoral combat ships, have been repainted using AMERCOAT ® 240 edge-retention epoxy and PSX ® 700SG epoxy polysiloxane coatings supplied by PPG's protective and marine coatings team. Using the Amercoat 240 epoxy and PSX 700SG coating system, the USS Freedom became the first naval warship since the 1960s to incorporate the U.S. Navy Federal Standard Colors for camouflage, featuring black, haze gray, light gray and ocean gray.
