Helping meet the smithsonian's high
standards is Randy Haranin, the PPG
territory manager who services the paint
operation team at the National Air and
space Museum. "the guys there are very
passionate about making each aircraft
what it was when it originally flew," he
said. "i feel honored to be able to work
with them."
one of the powerful assets PPG brings
to restoration projects is its outstanding
color library. PPG has maintained a
comprehensive archive of color data and
formulas dating back to the earliest days
of aviation. these antique paint codes are
an invaluable resource for restorers who
need to make every detail perfect.
"Historical accuracy is very important.
the restoration staff works very hard to
recreate those colors," Randy said.
"there are times they have to put a fade
into the paint because the original paint
had faded out. A blue may have turned a
little green."
