In its day, "Bloody Mary," Allen Duke's '64 Chevy Impala SS, epitomized
lowrider custom cool. With its long, low profile, modest chrome and radiant
paint job, the car turned heads wherever it cruised. It was a harbinger of the
lowriders that make up today's boulevard scene. By 2014 Bloody Mary was long
gone, but Howard Gribble, a friend of Duke's and a dedicated photographer/
historian of the Southern California lowrider scene, decided to recreate the
legendary cruiser. Gribble acquired a similar Impala and brought it to Jack
Fields and Edgar Hernandez of Starlite Rod & Custom in Torrance, Calif.
Guided by Gribble's detailed photographs, the Starlite team reproduced Bloody
Mary in all its splendor. A veritable clone of the original, Gribble's Bloody Mary
features an intense red finish with cobwebbed panels and roof achieved with
ENVIROBASE
