DETROIT SPEED REVS
UP THE AFTERMARKET AND
CUSTOMIZING WORLD.
Mooresville, North Carolina, is known as
Race City USA because it's home to so
many NASCAR and Indy Car teams. But
did you know it's also home to one of the
leading names in hot rodding? Founded by
Kyle and Stacy Tucker, Detroit Speed and
Engineering cranks out incredible custom
vehicles and premier aftermarket parts.
The Tuckers are a match made in
Detroit. Kyle and Stacy met at General
Motor's historic Milford Proving Grounds
where they both worked as mechanical
engineers. For fun, the newlyweds built
a 1969 Camaro in their two-car garage.
It sported a classic muscle car look, but
underneath lurked a wealth of suspension,
engine, braking and wheel technology.
Part street rod, part racecar, "Twister
Camaro" debuted at the dawn of the
pro-touring craze. "It was just the right
time for a car like that," reflects Kyle.
The Tuckers showcased the build at the
2000 Hot Rod Power Tour. After several
magazine write-ups, orders for parts and
entire builds began rolling in. Soon, Kyle
and Stacy were working full time on their
new venture.
