Despite the fact that PPG's global color formula database numbers in the millions, there are situations where a PPG customer just can't find the right color formula. On other occasions, customers need personal attention when getting up to speed with new color software or hardware. Fortunately, PPG has support for any issues that arise. The PPG Color Library and Help Desk Color IT experts are only a phone call away. COLOR LIBRARY The Color Library is the go-to resource for hard-to-find color formulas or even to confirm a formula. Jackie Kough, refinish customer service supervisor, Cathy Schoen, customer service representative, and the team of trilingual color librarians manage a trove of color information to dig deeper and solve challenging color questions. "People call us when they can't find a color on their own," explains Kough. "That's especially true for rare or historic colors for custom car and truck restoration projects." "We're often their last resort," adds Schoen. "When faced with some difficult searches, we're more like detectives than librarians." With nearly 75,000 calls answered annually, that's a lot of detective work. The Color Library's exclusive resources include handwritten color chip books dating back to the 1930s and a complete history of DITZLER ® colors. The staff frequently consults PPG's comprehensive color database. There's also the collective knowledge the staff has accumulated over the years. A mystery surrounding the British Racing Green formula for a particular car—with no OEM model information— was solved because a librarian knew about the formulas and their variations. Calls often move beyond cars: A customer restoring a classic Chris-Craft wanted to paint the galley refrigerator a retro turquoise. The staff found a match through Ditzler Classics. Questions dealing with red colors for Coca-Cola vending machines and, strangely, all kinds of helmets abound. But the majority of the calls focus on IN LIVING COLOR IN LIVING COLOR 36 Jackie Kough Refinish Customer Service Supervisor Cathy Schoen Customer Service Representative
