It took a lot of imagination, sweat and a myriad of modifications by co-owner and custom builder John Martin and the talented team at Johnny's Auto Trim & Rod Shop in Alamosa, Colo., to transform an ordinary '57 Chevy 150 into this year's Ridler Award recipient. Martin's crew handled the build featuring a chopped, reshaped roof and modern, aerodynamic profile. Tom Stark, owner of Precision Design Fabrications of Denver, helped out with the project. Wayne Saunders at Alternative Automotive Design in Colorado Springs and Johnny's did hundreds of hours of bodywork and line sculpting. Resting on a custom chassis, the cockpit-like interior sports custom leather bucket seats and a custom console. Power is provided by a 1,000 hp Nelson Racing 515 cubic inch twin-turbo Chevy big-block engine. Once built, Saunders finished the Chevy with "Imagine Silver," a custom color Martin created. Saunders applied a variety of PPG products including DELTRON ® NCP271 Corrosion Resistant Primer, VIBRANCE COLLECTION ® VP2100 Polyester Primer, Deltron DBC Basecoat and DCU2021 CONCEPT ® Urethane Clear along with DSC5250 DITZLER ® Satin Clear to give the car its lustrous finish. 2018 RIDLER AWARD WINNER PPG GALLERY A radically modified 1957 Chevrolet dubbed "Imagine" and wearing a custom silver PPG finish claimed the prestigious Don Ridler Memorial Award at the recent 66th Detroit Autorama. It was the sixth time in 11 years that an entry painted with PPG products took the prize. Imagine was one of five PPG-painted customs that were named Great 8 finalists in an extremely competitive field of entrants vying for the coveted honor. 41
