16 had already taken PPG's MVP Green Belt and White Belt training, and was implementing Lean for Collision production methods to get the most out of their existing facility. But it still lacked in capacity and optimum workflow. "We needed to get more production, and we wanted an even higher quality end product," adds Brian Godfrey, dealership president. "But we were also concerned about the work space for our employees. The long-term health and welfare of our people is very important to us." Annexing the nearby real estate was an obvious solution. Deciding how best to use it was a far more difficult question, and that's when they sought input from PPG. Pat Milliken Ford had thoroughly scrutinized its business relationship with PPG a few years earlier when they switched to the ENVIROBASE ® High Performance waterborne system. "Converting to waterborne was another way to demonstrate our concern for our employees," explains Brian, "and to give customers the best possible end product." The transition was a smooth one, and head painter Gordon Kraning believes it was the right choice: "Color match is easier, it dries quickly and if you screw something up, you can sand in just a few minutes.
