had already taken PPG's MVP Green
Belt and White Belt training, and
was implementing Lean for Collision
production methods to get the most
out of their existing facility. But it
still lacked in capacity and optimum
workflow.
"We needed to get more production,
and we wanted an even higher quality
end product," adds Brian Godfrey,
dealership president. "But we were
also concerned about the work space
for our employees. The long-term
health and welfare of our people is
very important to us."
Annexing the nearby real estate was
an obvious solution. Deciding how
best to use it was a far more difficult
question, and that's when they sought
input from PPG.
Pat Milliken Ford had thoroughly
scrutinized its business relationship
with PPG a few years earlier when
they switched to the ENVIROBASE
®
High Performance waterborne system.
"Converting to waterborne was another
way to demonstrate our concern for
our employees," explains Brian, "and
to give customers the best possible
end product."
The transition was a smooth one, and
head painter Gordon Kraning believes
it was the right choice: "Color match
is easier, it dries quickly and if you
screw something up, you can sand in
just a few minutes. I'd never spray
solvent again!"
