DERBY GRAND CHAMPION Allison Pankoff, 19, of Parker, Colo., and daughter of "Buzz" Pankoff, PPG commercial territory manager, drove her PPG-painted car to victory at the 2018 International Soap Box Derby Championship, held recently in Akron, Ohio. Allison took first place in the top tier Rally Masters Division, the first ever from Colorado to do so. Proud father Buzz, who served as Allison's coach (along with his wife, Judy), grew up racing Soap Box Derby cars, passing the longtime family tradition on to his kids, Allison and JP. Together they have captured dozens of trophies. HUMANITARIAN AWARD Bill Shaw, PPG director of marketing for automotive refinish, was recently honored by the Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) with its 2018 SCRS Humanitarian Award, citing his many contributions leading to the success and sustainability of the Collision Industry Foundation. Launched after Hurricane Katrina, the Collision Industry Foundation provides emergency relief to collision repair professionals and their families in the wake of hurricanes, floods and other disasters. Upon accepting the award, Shaw noted that the CIF helped more than 78 collision repair professionals and their families last year, many of whom were affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Gary Danowski Vice President, Global Refinish A LEGACY FOR SUCCESS As I take on this new role upon John Outcalt's retirement, I celebrate him and give thanks for all that he has done for this business. Assuming the role of vice president of global refinish, I am grateful to John for his leadership and contributions, as he has a left a significant legacy for our team to build upon. Filling John's shoes is no small order, but benefiting from my 36-year career with PPG, serving in diverse management roles, my goal is to parlay my experience and do my best to lead the refinish team to new heights of achievement. I started with PPG in engineering, followed by roles in sales and marketing. Later I served as head of operations for a number of businesses, including aerospace and automotive glass. My experience in general management was augmented by opportunities to run the refinish business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and most recently I headed up our OEM automotive team. It's an honor to return to the refinish side to help further our reputation for providing customers with the best in products and support. Change is inevitable in any organization and can be uneasy for some. But as we celebrate the 135th anniversary of PPG's founding in 1883, it's reassuring to know that it's been our ability to embrace change, evolve over time and meet the ever- changing needs of our customers and businesses that's been instrumental to our continued success. This is our legacy and I do not foresee any significant change to this strategy. We will continue to stay focused on our customers and drive solutions and value that contribute to their continued success. INSIDE LINE 4
