Jan Graham is a dyed-in-the-wool
rocker and owner of G Bone Guitars
in Shelby Township, Mich., where he
builds premium custom guitars—
some of them for the country's top
recording artists. He's been making
guitars for more than 20 years, and
depends upon PPG finishes to give
them the exact look he wants.
Jan takes pride in using the finest
Michigan bird's-eye maple and
rosewood to make his 6- and
12-string guitars and 4- and 5-string
bass guitars. He's a perfectionist, so
naturally the guitars' unique paint
schemes are especially important to
him. Jan had been using another
paint brand for years, but says the
supplier wasn't giving him the
support he needed. On a whim, he
walked into GNe Paint & Supplies, a
PPG Platinum Distributor in Hazel
Park that is celebrating its 50th
anniversary as a single-line PPG
jobber. There, he struck up a
conversation with store manager,
Rob Carpus, and in minutes became
a PPG customer.
G Bone has a separate paint room
equipped with a spray booth where
Jan meticulously applies DPS3055
primer surfacer and Deltron
®
DBC
basecoat with VIBRANCe
COLLeCTION
®
and RADIANCe
®
II tints
and effects. DC4000 clear and D8115
matte clear are used over basecoat
colors and raw wood.
G Bone guitars get a lot of attention
for their sound and quality. They're
also hitting all the right notes for
their looks.
