PReTTY IN PINK It's not often that a body shop gets a call for a pink paint job—especially on a fire truck. Yet when Andy Willard, manager of Modern Automotive Body Shop in Winston-Salem, N.C., one of the largest collision centers in the Northeast, got that request, he didn't think twice. The call came from the Triad North Carolina chapter of the Guardians of the Ribbon-Pink Heals, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising public awareness of cancer and raising funds for families battling the disease. The group is made up of firefighters, police and paramedics who don pink gear and provide free services such as transportation, housecleaning and flower delivery for cancer patients and their families. They had a fire truck across Sofie's pink panels, conveying signs of hope and commitment to a worthy cause. that needed to be painted pink for the chapter's Pink Heals fundraising tour. Named Sofie after a local pediatric cancer patient, the truck was in rough shape when the city donated it to the group. Modern Automotive, a PPG shop since 1985, stepped in and spent nearly two months refurbishing the vehicle and applying its hard-to-miss pink finish. The paint system, provided by PPG distributor Colors edge, Inc., in Greensboro, is comprised of DeLFLeeT ® evolution FBC basecoat and F3921 clear. As spectacular as the truck was when it drove out of the shop, the finishing touches were added at the truck's dedication in May. Community supporters inscribed messages, prayers and words of encouragement 34
