FeAtUre ALL-AroUND GooDGUyS LONGTIME PARTNERSHIP WITH PPG PAYS OFF FOR HOT RODDING ENTHUSIASTS EVERYWHERE Columbus, ohio. Crowds are gathering, waiting for the gates to open. it's the annual PPG Goodguys Nationals where more than 6,000 amazing hot rods, classics, muscle cars, street machines and trucks are ready for viewing. if you're a custom car or hot rod lover, this is where you'll be because on the second weekend of July, this is the center of the universe. the first event held by the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, in Pleasanton, Calif. in 1983, attracted only 400 cars. Goodguys founders Gary and Marilyn Meadors didn't know if their love of hot rods could be commercially successful. Gary had been producing car shows for other promoters since 1973, yet going solo was a risk. But the couple persisted, and in 1987 their Goodguys FeAtUre West Coast Nationals drew more than 2,100 hot rods, securing their spot on the custom car map. today, the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association is the world's largest hot rodding organization with more than 70,000 members. Gary's son, Marc, now plays a prominent role as president of the organization which each year the association produces 20 national events drawing over one million fans. the annual PPG Goodguys Nationals is its premier show, which will mark its 15 th anniversary this July. the PPG-Goodguys relationship is a special one dating back to the '90s when PPG representatives attending Goodguys events marveled at the crowds and the stunning cars—many sporting PPG finishes. so they asked Meadors and the Goodguys team how PPG could become more involved and support their efforts.
