Winning an award at one of America's top hot rod shows is a notable achievement. Winning two is significant. But winning three? Now you're entering elite turf. And that's exactly what Jeff Matauch and his gold-finished 1954 Chevy 3100 pickup did at the 2012 detroit Autorama. Matauch, a training manager at the PPG Business development Center in Wixom, Mich., collected First in Class—Full Custom truck, Best truck in the show and outstanding display honors. A neat hat trick for any vehicle, but take a close look at this beauty and you'll agree it deserved the prizes. Matauch bought the truck nine years ago in Arizona after attending a PPG sales meeting. "i always wanted an older style truck because i like the way they look," he said. After he finally found the right one, he shipped it home to New Hudson, Mich., where he and his son Jacob began working on it. the father-son combo turned the pickup into a custom rod giving it a 502-cubic-inch Chevy mill, air conditioning, power windows, other amenities, and finishing it off in a gleaming gold color Matauch created. He sprayed the chassis with Envirobase ® High Performance using PPG 4820 gray metallic. For color, he chose a custom mix of Deltron ® DBC toner and Radiance ® dye from the Vibrance Collection. ® He finished the job with d8152 Glamour Clear. AutoRAMA HAt tRiCK When their son Ryan shipped out for his first tour of duty in Afghanistan, Andy schaffer of Watco Mechanical services, and his wife Nancy, decided to honor all military men and women with a customized 2010 Harley street Glide. Residents of duBois, Penn., the couple dreamed up the flag concept for the bike, then gave Matt Willoughby Paint design of New Middletown, ohio, creative freedom of expression. thanks to their use of PPG's Deltron ® paint system, old Glory shines radiantly. to complement the stars and stripes, you'll find many other patriotic details, including the motto of Air Force tactical Air Control Parties (the unit their son serves in), the Great seal of the united states and the statue of liberty. the bike not only earns salutes on the road, it has also won top honors at motorcycle competitions, including four people's choice awards. iN HoNoR oF 34
