PPG is helping baseball players across North America smack home runs, hit line drives and even lay down perfect bunts. That's because Bauer Performance Sports in Ottawa, Canada—maker of the popular Combat ® brand baseball bats—is now using a PPG commercial coatings paint system to give their bats a durable, premium finish. Combat bats are 100 percent composite— made of carbon fiber and fiberglass materials. They also require a good-looking finish as long lasting as the bats themselves. Until recently, the paint system that BPS Diamond Sports was using simply wasn't durable enough. It required too many production steps and dissolved decals when they were applied to the finish. Working with local distributor Max Auto Supply, it didn't take much convincing for Fred St. Laurent, BPS Diamond Sports director of development, to switch to PPG and a recommended system comprised of CPC CRE321 Epoxy Primer, DELFLEET ESSENTIAL ® ESSS Basecoat and DELFLEET ® Evolution F3921 Clearcoat. The benefits were immediate. The previous 12-step production process was reduced to six, productivity increased, and capacity has almost tripled. Players love the bats and they're in great demand in the United States and Canada. BPS Diamond Sports weekly production is quickly approaching 2,000 bats, making the handsome bats with a PPG finish a resounding hit. HOME RUN FINISH PPG GALLERY 33
