MOST BEAUTIFUL ROADSTER This 1932 Ford Highboy Roadster owned by acclaimed custom car builder and painter Darryl Hollenbeck won the 2016 America's Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) award at the Grand National Roadster Show recently held in Pomona, Calif. It was the third time Hollenbeck has painted an AMBR winner and the first time he captured the prize with his own build. Starting with a Brookville all-steel body, Hollenbeck and his colleagues Dan Webb and Cory Taulbert built the car at Hollenbeck's Vintage Color Studio. To create the roadster's unique color, dubbed "Rotten Avocado Green," Hollenbeck applied a custom mix created with the PPG ENVIROBASE ® High Performance system. THE GRASSHOPPER REBORN This wicked roadster is a clone of the powerful 1950s street rod dubbed "The Grasshopper," a 1915 Ford Model T that was cool enough to be showcased on the cover of Hot Rod's October 1959 issue. Dave Shuten and Beau Boeckmann of Galpin Auto Sports in Van Nuys, Calif., recreated The Grasshopper last year. Celebrated painter Darryl Hollenbeck, owner of Vintage Color Studio in Concord, Calif., duplicated the original car's dark emerald green metallic finish using PPG's ENVIROBASE ® High Performance waterborne basecoat and EC800 Ultra Fast 2.1 Clearcoat. Eric Reyes did the striping and lettering, and Hollenbeck re-cleared with EC750 Appearance Clear.
