FINISH COOLEST FIRE
TRUCK
Restoration of a rare 1960 Jeep FC-170 military fire engine is the pet project of
Craig Thomas of Ketchikan, Alaska. Built by the Howe Fire Apparatus Company,
it was shipped to Alaska for the Federal Aviation Administration—the only model
of its kind ever made for the federal government. Thomas's father, founder of the
Ketchikan Pond Reef Volunteer Fire Department, purchased the truck in the 1980s
and it sat for decades before restoration. Thomas, who manages the paint shop
for a heavy-equipment rental company, performed the mechanical and body work.
Co-worker Jon Clark painted the truck with DELFLEET ESSENTIAL
®
Basecoat
and ESC621 Polyurethane Clearcoat. Pinstriper Darin Allen of Killer Designs,
Flatwood, Ky., added the finishing details.
